The Open is almost here, are you ready for it?

The CrossFit Open is just around the corner. Whether you are a serious competitor or you just participate for fun and the personal challenge, there are a few steps to take in order to be fully prepared and ready come the announcement of 18.1.

Firstly, you need to register. You are not really in the open until you have signed up and posted it to social media (#intheopen)

Secondly, is your programming preparing you? This is one your coaches will look after but it doesn't hurt to repeat some previous workouts in your spare time.

Lastly, do you have all the equipment and accessories you need? Don't overlook the minor things that can make a big impact come 3,2,1 GO!

Speed Rope – Don't let double unders be your rival.

Double under have featured in the open every year since it started. So you would be silly to be under prepared and be without a rope. Regardless of your double under ability, we have a rope to suit you.

If you are someone who is yet to nail the movement, our evolution speed rope is perfect for you. Featuring a heavier rope and lightweight handles, this rope allows you to feel it as it moves, which is essential to learning how to get your body and your rope to move together as one graceful unit.

If you are someone who has nailed the movement then we have you covered. If you prefer a slightly heavier feel our competition speed rope is for you but if you prefer a lighter weight feel then our team speed rope will give you the speed and precision you are after.

Mobility

Most of us are aware of how important mobility is, but most of us still neglect it. Don't let mobility issues get in your way during the open. In terms of essentials, you can't be without a roller. The benefits of rolling out include; reduced inflammation, improved circulation and improved flexibility. Plus there is nothing better than rolling out when your muscles are aching!

A lacrosse ball is another great option for improving your mobility. The small size of a lacrosse ball is perfect for targeting smaller, more specific trigger points within the body that a roller can't get to. The idea behind using a lacrosse ball is to apply pressure to the trigger point which then releases the trigger resulting in eased muscles and alleviated pain.

Accessories – your secret weapon

When competing in the open every second and every rep counts! Don’t leave anything to chance.

Hand Grips

During the open we typically see a lot of rep cycling, this means holding on to the bar or the rig for as long as you can. As we all know our grip is mostly likely to give out before anything else. Hand grips are your new best friend! Give yourself the best chance at avoiding rips or tears and prolong your grip strength.

Wrist Wraps

Are you due for a new set of wrist wraps? Or have you been considering getting a pair. There is no time like the present. Wrist wraps are one of the more common accessory seen in CrossFit gyms. When you are trying to punch through the reps the last thing you want is wrist pain. Both our cloth wraps and heavyweight wrist wraps can provide the support your wrists need for all the pressing, jerking, cleaning, over head squatting and handstand push ups that might come your way this open. Plus they will make you look 10x cooler!

Knee Sleeves

Knee sleeves are ideal for joint support during heavy load work outs or high repetition workouts. The open is notorious for combining the two. One week may see you squat cleaning an increasing load as you progress through the workout and the next week you may be going for maximum repetitions in an allotted time frame. What ever it may be, make sure your knees are supported. We have a range of knee sleeves that provide different levels of support.
